Violet at 3 Months

Growth: Holding steady in size 2 diapers. Medium in cloth diapers. 14.5 pounds. 25-ish (you're wiggly) inches long.

Most of the clothes you're wearing these days are 6 month.


Appearance: The first order of business is addressing something that I failed to mention before, which your Daddy deemed necessary to point out. You have elf ears. Maybe you'll grow out of them, but if not... You're welcome.

You're plumper. Your hair is coming in nicely. It's a medium brown. Your pediatrician thinks the baby blues are going to stay. They've grown more vibrant around your pupils.


Development: Smiles and coos galore. You've got a healthy set of lungs. You have grown more observant. You hardly ever take your eyes off of me. Lately your prefer your hands to your pacifier. And you're not quiet about it either. Sometimes I know you're awake because I can hear slurping over the monitor. You grab and hold onto things a lot. You also hold toys.

You hate tummy time a little less now. Either way, you're really good at it. And (drumroll, please) you rolled over!! August 4th was the day. Exactly 12 weeks old.

I hang on every sound you make waiting for a real laugh.


Feeding: All is well. Your chubby legs are proof of that. You're eating every 2-3 hours during the day and 3-5 hours at night.


Sleeping: Mom and Dad's bed it is. That's how you sleep best. And how I sleep best. As far as naps go, you're taking less throughout the day. Usually just 2-3 at about 30 minutes a piece.

Time is still traveling at warp speed.
I have a feeling it's going to stay that way.

We're moving across the country in a month and a half. I've started packing. In general, packing sucks. However, I don't really feel too sad about boxing our stuff up to be opened up once again in another home, another state, another time zone. I've done it multiple times by now. Then I got to the nursery. I walked in with a couple of boxes and some newspaper and just looked around. I tenderly touched her books and trinkets. The vintage cat figurines from Aunt Sissy. A Birth Story

September 27. Your birth was scheduled. It took time, but I finally came to terms with that. I found out the hard way with your sister that I was unable to have babies the way I had hoped. My pelvis is simply not the right size and shape to serve as a baby passage. My doctor told me I could choose a date for the surgery. I launched into an internal over analytical calendar frenzy. It felt like the heaviest burden to choose a person’s birthday. For someone who believes that babies come when they are ready, on a specific day, when the moon is right, and all that other witchy shit… There simply was no way to choose the “correct” day. Twenty-Four

  The above photograph was taken on my fourth birthday. I had the chicken pox, so the only people who could attend my party were people who had already had them. Obviously, Barney had the chicken pox before me. My twenty-fourth birthday didn't have Barney balloons (but there was ice cream cake!), but it was equally as enjoyable. I spent the day lounging with my family before making a trip to David Crockett State Park.
