Ezra at 5 Months
Growth & Appearance:
You weigh 18.5 lbs. You are 28 inches long. 9 month clothing is getting snug. Who am I kidding... you're in 12 month clothing at this point. I'm just not ready to let go of the well-stocked 9 month wardrobe and move on to the non-existent 12 month wardrobe. No matter though, you're rarely in clothes these days. If you are wearing clothes, you are drenched in drool within minutes. You're between size 3-4 diapers.
Your eyes are a steely, solemn shade of blue. The little hair you have is light honey brown. You are big. My grandmother used the term "robust" recently to describe you.
Eating:
You nurse about every 2 hours during the day. As we get into the evening hours you tank up for bedtime and nurse every 1 hour.
You've had pears and sweet potatoes. Although confused about the texture initially, you enjoyed them. You actually consume more than I expected, rather than merely pushing the goop out with your tongue. You lean in and open your mouth whenever I'm holding you and eating. I expect you'll be a good eater.
Sleeping:
You go to bed around 8:30 and get up between 6-7 am.
You're slowly returning to the longer stretches (high-fives and dosey-does!), now averaging 3 hour increments at night. Every couple of weeks you pull a split-night and wake at 3am ready to start your day. You'll happily stay awake for two hours, eyes wide as saucers, no fussing.
Some days you have 3 naps and others 4, depending how long they are. Our schedule is, when you get mean, you nap.
Development:
You're hand-eye coordination has improved greatly. You reach and grab things with ease, like that stranger's hair while we waited in line the other day. She'll attest that your grip is unyielding. You are strong.
You have found your hands and your feet. I catch you staring at them, mesmerized. Your thumb occasionally finds your mouth and sometimes you fall asleep like that.
You are no longer content at the reclined angle your bouncy seat and car seat sit at. In fact, it pisses you the hell off. You start doing crunches, forcefully trying to orient yourself in more of an upright position. You can sit unsteadily in a tripod position, using your arms as a kickstand.
If left to lay, you will be on your stomach in less than 5 seconds. You only roll to your left. You will pull your legs up under you, poke your butt up, and push off - scooting a few inches at a time. You can also rotate a full 360 degrees. The amount of ground you can cover by just wiggling around like a grub is impressive.
You seem to enjoy the sights and sounds if we go out and about. Strangers often attempt to elicit a smile from you. You're pretty selective with them. Strangers also like guessing how old you are. With guesses like 7 or 8 months, they are wrong every time.
You adore your sister and are mesmerized by her antics. You watch, captivated as she zips all around you singing, dancing and doing gymnastics. We yell at her, "Be careful around your brother!" at least 20 times a day. You break your neck to keep an eye on her. You've just began laughing without being tickled or "got" by us. You cackled at your sister from across the room last week.
You've grown more observant. If the cats or dogs enter your line of sight, you'll follow them with your gaze and even contort your body to keep an eye on them. You'll also reach out to grab them. None of them mind. Acorn will actually come to you for pets.
