The Nursery

With no time to go, the nursery is finally complete! The basics have been taken care of for a few weeks, but there were a few finishing touches I had to complete before I felt it was blog worthy.

So here's a little tour of our nursery, with notes along the way...

  • Tah dah! One accent wall painted light blue. Yes, we realize we're having a girl. We decided to forgo the traditional sea of pink so commonly found in little girl's nurseries. Instead, we went for a lovely mixture of delicate colors and patterns, focusing on light blue and eggplant purple.
  • The glider was given to us by a friend of Ben's who no longer needed it. So thankful I am!
  • The corner shelf was salvaged from my mom and dad's house. A fresh coat of white paint and it became the perfect piece to display Violet's trinkets.
  • The crib was the only large item we purchased new. We decided to go with the traditional old-fashioned look. We also refrained from the traditional bedding sets. I like the simplicity of how it is now. Besides, infants aren't supposed to sleep with anything but a flat sheet at first anyway. The eggplant sheet was made by my mom, as well as the eyelet crib skirt.

  • The frames hung above the crib display some dainty textiles that I really like. Most of them are floral prints. I think they add an old-fashioned feminine touch.
  • I made the mobile out of things I already had at home. It wasn't what I had originally planned to make, but I think it's got some charm to it.
  • I was tickled that we received so many stuffed animals from friends and family. For now the cuddly friends reside in the crib together.

  • The dresser actually belonged to my sister and I as children. It was originally cream colored. We painted it white, repaired the drawer sliders, and cleaned up the hardware.
  • The changing pad belonged to a family member. My mom made the eggplant cover to go on it. The cover and sheet look a bit black in these photos. They're dark purple, promise.
  • The mirror was originally just a simple window given to me by my mom and dad. We painted it and took it to a glass shop to replace the window panes with mirror.

  •  The doorway into the nursery has a beautiful wreath that my aunt gave to me when Ben and I got married. It's been up in our house ever since. I've always loved it and thought it would go perfectly in the nursery, so I gave it a new home from the living room.
  • Violet's bag, packed and ready to go. Courtesy of my amazing sister-in-law Hannah.

  • The floral platter and teacup and saucer were gifts from my sister. They were used at the baby shower and fit perfectly in the nursery. The pair of kitties are also from her. All of these gifts are antiques she found in Huntsville.
  • The little piggy bank and orange flower rattle were both mine when I was little.
  • The clothes hamper was also mine and my sister's as children. It was a light yellow color before receiving fresh paint and a new cover.

  • Simple black and white drapes.
  • I did some simple embroidery illustrations to hang in a group.
  • The sock monkey was made by Violet's Great Great Grandmother.

  • A framed photograph of wild Violet flowers taken by my dear friend Courtney.
  • The start of what is sure to be a gigantic book collection.
  • Tiny accessories and tiny shoes.

  • The blankets on the shelves were all handcrafted and I adore them so much.
  • An assortment of receiving blankets.

  • The closet is home to extra bedding and lots of other random goodies. And lots of diapers and wipes. If you only knew how many packs of diapers are carefully stacked along the edge of the closet that can't be seen in this photo.
  • Rompers, special outfits, and dresses.

  • Booty changing supplies in a metal basket from my mother-in-law. Perfect!
  • The top drawer has extra supplies.

  • Short-sleeved onesies.
  • Long-sleeved onesies and tiny pants.

  • Bibs, burpclothes, hats, and lots of tiny socks.
  • Sleepers and gowns.

This nursery wouldn't be what it is without all of the amazing gifts from all of our family and friends. Thank you everyone so very much! Your love and support means the world to us.

Now all we need is a real baby!
