Violet at 8 Months
Growth & Appearance: Your hair is starting to get thicker. Your face has actually gotten a little thinner. I'm not saying it's thin, it's still chubby. I'm saying a little of the fat has migrated to your thighs. They're not stopping any time soon. You hold you head up differently now, giving you more of a neck. Your body is like a roll of biscuits that's busted open. Not the little measly biscuits, the Pillsbury Grands. Biscuit baby.
You weigh 19.5 lbs and are 29 inches long. You have actually lost half a pound. You drag race across the floor, so it's no surprise. You just moved up into size 4 diapers. You're wearing size 12 month clothing.
Teeth: Number three broke through on January 9th. Whereas most babies get their middle teeth first, you're a vampire baby. You inherited it from me. You're welcome. The corresponding vampire tooth and both front teeth are quite visible. I expect they'll be arriving soon.
Development: You wave now. You'll wave "bye-bye" and sometimes just at completely random things. You waved at the Christmas tree a lot. Sometimes when someone is talking to me you'll pull a heil Hitler, that's my favorite. You'll also "pat-a-cake" by slapping someones hand if they present it palm up. When music is playing you will clap your hands or stiffen your arms and legs while sitting and wave them up and down. Baby dancing. You'll also bounce wildly up and down when you're excited.
You're incredibly mobile. You will get on your hands and knees, but then pull one leg up and use your foot to pull yourself and drag the other leg. You look handicapped. You can do a regular crawl, but you go much faster with the peg leg crawl. Ole Peggy. Now that you can truly go wherever you please you can always be found dashing to one of three things - electrical cords, vents, or cat toys.
You stick your tongue out when you concentrate. You can usually be find making a mad dash across the room with your tongue flopped out like a little puppy.
You're more independent. You've been pulling up for a couple of months, but now you're taking risks and trying to let go and and stand by yourself.
You're friendly and sweet. You have no problem going to different people, as long as I'm not in sight. When we're in public people always comment that you are such a good baby. You really usually are.
You just started scrunching your nose up when you smile and I die every time.
If there is a beard around you absolutely insist on touching it. You'll throw yourself towards the person until you can get a feel.
You said "bite bite" while eating one day. I thought it was a coincidence since you like "b" sounds, but then you said it again and again. You make more sounds in general, including a new found love of screeching.
Eating: You love food. You're eating some table food now. You've had several things off of people's plates. So far you've liked it all.
You've also had whole grain puffs, yogurt drops, baby cheese puffs, apple and ginger baby cookies, graham crackers, and various fruit in your fresh feeder. Orange slices are your favorite.
You've grown bored with pureed food and want things you can hold. In fact, feeding you things that require a spoon is downright frustrating for me at times because you insist on grabbing at the spoon.
You're spacing your daytime feedings out more. During the day you seem more focused on real food. It's to the point now where if anyone around you is eating you freak out and we have to give you something. If I'm holding you, you'll actually hurl your body toward the person with the food. You are not spacing your nighttime feedings out more.
You had went down to two naps a day, then you went back to three, and now it's whatever. Some days it's two and some it's three. The first one is around 10 and the second one varies. How late or early the second one is dictates whether or not there will be a third one.
